WHERE BOOK CLUB MEETS STORYTELLING

It will be an exploration of the intersections of person, place, and the wild - through popular and personal narrative. Kim Sedore will be your guide in canoe tripping and camping, and Sheila Dobson will be facilitating the Book Club, journalling, and story-telling elements of the  trip. As a team, Kim and Sheila are literally on the same page, and will be combining their passion for community and their love for nature to deliver and share a most enjoyable creative and nourishing nature experience.

It's Book Club in the sense that you'll have a reading list, provided well in advance of the trip,  full of Canadian content, mainly entered around writers' experiences of their encounter with the land and, consequently, encounters with themselves in the context of their relationship with the land. The extent and depth that each person on the trip will have explore the material prior to embark on on our voyage will, of course, be up to each individual.

The trip itself is an opportunity to approach and enter into time on the land, with the land, as individuals and as a group. As facilitators, Kim and Sheila provide a certain structure by which to explore the literature.

There will also be opportunity for personal reflection and journaling. Story-sharing will be encouraged throughout the trip, with special time devoted to story-telling during evening campfires.

This is an adventure for book lovers, nature lovers, story tellers, fire gazers, and journal keepers.

All levels of canoe tripping experience. First-time campers are encouraged to join - paddling in a 'big canoe' is a stable, comfortable, and wonderful way to begin exploring canoe tripping!

We are able to bring 7 people, plus Sheila and Kim, all in the same big canoe

Pre-trip guidance in packing and preparation will be ample. Kim will speak with each participant beforehand to discuss the trip, the plans, individual needs, and questions.

Please contact Kim by email at kimsedore@gmail.com, or by phone at 416-476-7878, with questions and for registration.

Dip, Dip, and Sing! 2018

  • Pete's Place, Massassauga Provincial Park (map)

We're doing it again! We are excited to present the 3rd Dip, Dip, and Sing, a song-singing canoe trip with Eve Goldberg. Eve will be your leader in song and trip planning and canoe-trip & camping guiding will be provided by Kim Sedore.

"This will be a fun, laid back environment with an emphasis on group singing, including traditional and original folk songs in harmonies and rounds. Bring your sing along songs to share or come ready to learn new songs."  - Eve Goldberg

The big canoe can carry a group of 9 people, plus all our food and camping equipment.  With Eve and Kim, we have space for 7 more folks to make this trip a reality.

All degrees and depths of camping experience are welcome.  Beginner and first-time campers are encouraged - paddling a 'big canoe' is a really neat, novel, safe, and comfortable way to explore canoe tripping. Since we'll all be in the same boat, people can paddle as much as they like and take breaks whenever you need to... the power of the group moves us along. It's a beautiful thing. Also, and not the least bit secondary, what a gorgeous environment to explore and enjoy group singing and song!

Massassauga Provincial Park is located along the south east shores of Georgian Bay. The waters we will be paddling bring us through sheltered inlets, bays, and islands.  We will have the option to take a day-trip out to the more open waters if weather permits and the group desires. We will also have the option of going for a picnic paddle on the second day, going for a hike on one of the trails, or passing a relaxing afternoon at the campsite. This will all be weather-dependent and decision-making will be group- and safety-oriented.  The maximization of relaxation and opportunities to sing together will be kept in high priority.

Pre-trip guidance in packing and preparation will be ample. Kim will speak with each participant beforehand to discuss the trip, the plans, individual needs, and questions.

We hope you'll consider joining as an individual, as a couple, with family, or with friends.

Price: $690
